Privacy policy
Last updated: 26 October 2026. Short version: TubeMargin keeps your data in your own browser unless you send it to an AI you choose, has no analytics, and sells nothing.
Who we are
TubeMargin is operated by ("we"). Contact: .
What stays in your browser
- Your settings, custom prompts and your Pro library (saved notes, transcripts and screenshots) are stored locally in the extension's own storage in your browser. We have no server that receives them and cannot see them.
- Removing the extension, or clearing its data, deletes them.
What the extension does over the network
- YouTube. Transcripts and captions are fetched from YouTube, by your browser, the same way YouTube's own player gets them. Nothing about the video is sent to us.
- The AI site you pick. When you choose ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini, TubeMargin opens that site in a new tab and pastes the prompt and transcript you chose into the message box. It goes to that site, inside your own account there, and is covered by that company's terms and privacy policy. Through this hand-off, nothing goes to an AI site unless you click to send it. We add nothing to your prompt.
- Your own AI key (optional). If you add your own Anthropic (Claude) or OpenAI (ChatGPT) API key in settings, the key is stored only in this browser. Once a key is added, TubeMargin summarizes a video when you press Summarize, or each video as you open it if you switch that on in settings. For a summary or an answer it sends the video title, channel, link and transcript, plus your questions in that chat, straight from your browser to the company you picked, under your own account and that company's terms and privacy policy. It never passes through us. A finished summary is kept in your browser, so reopening the video does not summarize it again. Remove the key in settings at any time.
- Payments. Pro is sold through ExtensionPay, which uses Stripe, and the money goes to our own Stripe account. If you buy or log in, ExtensionPay and Stripe receive your email address and payment details and handle your purchase, and we receive your email address and the record of your purchase. We never receive your card number. Once you have upgraded or restored a purchase, the extension contacts ExtensionPay automatically to check whether your plan is active: when you open YouTube (at most once every 10 minutes) and when you open TubeMargin's settings page. That check carries no information about your videos or notes. If you have never upgraded or restored, it makes no request. See ExtensionPay's and Stripe's privacy policies.
What we do not do
- No analytics, no tracking, no advertising, no fingerprinting, in the extension or on this website.
- We do not collect or log which videos you watch or save.
- We do not sell, rent or share your data.
- This website sets no cookies and loads no third-party scripts, fonts or trackers. Like any web host, the host of this site (GitHub Pages) may keep ordinary server logs such as IP addresses; we do not receive or use them.
Permissions the extension asks for
Storage (to keep your notes and settings), unlimited storage (so a large library fits), and access to youtube.com (to show the panel and read the transcript), chatgpt.com, claude.ai and gemini.google.com (to paste your prompt), and extensionpay.com (for the plan check and purchase). Only if you add your own AI key, it also asks for access to api.anthropic.com or api.openai.com, for that company alone. It uses these for nothing else.
Your rights
We hold no personal data about how you use the extension. If you buy Pro, we receive your email address and the record of your purchase (never your card number) through ExtensionPay and our Stripe account, and keep them for accounting, refunds and support. We also keep emails you send us for support, only to answer you. If you are in the EU or UK you have rights of access, correction, deletion and complaint to your data protection authority. Write to us and we will act on it. For data held by ExtensionPay or Stripe, contact them.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above. We will not start collecting new kinds of data without telling you in the extension first.
